MINDFULNESS

Where is your mind
right now?

Our brains are constantly changing due to our environments, the people we surround ourselves with, and the products we consume on a daily basis. As youth's brains are developing, they are becoming more anxious and depressed, and have developed negative perceptions of themselves. Social media itself has become a remedial routine, providing people with an endless stream of engagement that may not positively contribute to their lives. Although social media offers a unique chance at connection, it becomes difficult to keep up with such a competitive atmosphere. As social media continues to be a constant experience in daily life, it is vital to consider how to combat the negativity users are subjected to. It may be easy to believe one isn't enough because of the false reminders they are subjected to online.

Mindfulness is oriented around the betterment of the self. Being in tune with your mentality as it interacts with daily aspects of life, such as social media. It provides tools for awareness, which can allow one to escape the cycle of negativity and think on behalf of themselves with responsibility for their own thoughts. There is peace in thinking for yourself and ignoring the unwanted opinions of people who are in no position to dictate your being.
